March sees the second leg of the European Championship qualifying campaign. On the programme is the double confrontation with Luxembourg.  

After a difficult start against Croatia and the Czech Republic, the Red Wolves face two crucial matches.  Your support as fans is un-unbearable in this regard.  All of you in red should come to the Alverberg in Hasselt on 16 March! The Red Wolves are counting on your support!

CZECH REPUBLIC WINS CONVINCING VICTORY AGAINST RED WOLVES

The Red Wolves suffered a second consecutive defeat ahead of the 2026 European Championship on Sunday afternoon. The Belgians lost 15-31 to the Czech Republic. Halfway through the match, the score was 9-14. After two days of play, Croatia and the Czech Republic lead Group 5. Belgium and Luxembourg are last without points. Both teams will play each other twice in March.

CROATIA A LITTLE TOO STRONG FOR BELGIUM

The Belgians started their European Championship qualifying campaign with a defeat. In a fine first half, they kept level with favourite Croatia for a long time to finally rest with a 16 – 12 score. In the second half, the Red Wolves had a much harder time and ultimately lost the game 30 – 23. On Sunday, the Red Wolves play their first home match against the Czech Republic.

CHERIF HAMANI NAMED NEW HEAD COACH OF RED WOLVES

Cherif Hamani has been appointed as the new head coach of the Red Wolves. The 42-year-old Frenchman, who has been coaching handball since 2002, led Tremblay to a championship title and promotion to the Starligue last season.

Hamani’s main goals with the Red Wolves are to qualify for the 2026 European Championship and to develop a unique team identity.

YÉRIME SYLLA STEPS DOWN AS NATIONAL COACH

Yérime Sylla will quit as national coach of the Red Wolves. The Frenchman is accepting an attractive and ambitious plan from another country. Yérime Sylla began his third term as national coach of the Belgian men’s handball team in October 2021. His biggest success is the Red Wolves’ first-ever qualification for a major tournament. In January 2023, the Belgians participated in the World Handball Championship.
