The Red Wolves suffered a second consecutive defeat ahead of the 2026 European Championship on Sunday afternoon. The Belgians lost 15-31 to the Czech Republic. Cherif Hamani has been appointed as the new head coach of the Red Wolves. The 42-year-old Frenchman, who has been coaching handball since 2002, led Tremblay to a championship title and promotion to the Starligue last season.
Hamani’s main goals with the Red Wolves are to qualify for the 2026 European Championship and to develop a unique team identity.

Yérime Sylla will quit as national coach of the Red Wolves. The Frenchman is accepting an attractive and ambitious plan from another country. Yérime Sylla began his third term as national coach of the Belgian men’s handball team in October 2021. His biggest success is the Red Wolves’ first-ever qualification for a major tournament. In January 2023, the Belgians participated in the World Handball Championship.
